I feel like we've been saying this since mid-July, but summer is finally winding down. Blue skies and perfect temperatures are currently blanketing New York City, the streets feel empty yet alive, and the mood is very "glad it happened, thrilled it's over." But summer is ending its reign like a true Virgo, sticking its heels into the ground screaming, "it's not over till it's over"…September 22nd to be exact. And while I'm positive I'm not the only person in this corner of the internet who's excited to get dressed for fall, sartorially speaking, we have a handful of weeks ahead of us that offer the best type of dressing.
"Try to enjoy it." Something I've whispered to myself every day this summer. The theme of my life right now is 'construction', building block by block, Marie Kondo-ing every inch of my existence. From my own experience, you rarely know when you're in the home stretch of your current chapter, one decision, email or chance encounter away from a completely new one, for better or worse. When you're creating something from scratch, it's hard to see the magic while you're in the thick of it. "How will it all work out?" "Is this even worth it?" "Will he text me back?" And then one day you wake up and somehow all of these questions have been answered, you're exactly where you're meant to be and the only wish you have is that you had enjoyed your time spent in the 'in-between' more.
When it comes to getting dressed, I live for winter…fur, leather, cashmere, give it to me! And here we are in pre-fall, the whisper of what's to come: long-sleeve mini dresses with boots, leather shorts and cashmere. Dress like a Pinterest board come to life. Once again... try to enjoy it.
The in-between is full of feelings—anticipation, restlessness, hope, uncertainty, excitement, butterflies. Here are five ways to look your best while you wait...

Someone New
With over a decade of dating under her belt, she had seen, heard, and texted it all. A few weeks ago she met a guy who just clicked—"if he wanted to, he would." Walking down 10th Street, past her old apartment, the building with the stoop she had sat on waiting for a million responses. "Ding ding," he texted her, because of course he did.

I’m Actually Here
She didn't want to get on the plane. "I could stay in New York for the next 10 days and wake up with my life completely together," she thought to herself anytime the idea of packing crossed her mind. But here she was, a few time zones away in the Uber on the way to the hotel she had booked months ago, in a place she had waited her whole life to visit. "I can't believe I'm actually here," she realized in awe, over the moon that she had made the trip.

Before The Show
Ever since she was a kid, she had arrived to concerts on time. "They aren't going on for another three hours," her boyfriend reminded her, completely aware this was a losing battle. She didn't care. What if she attended the first show in the history of music that started exactly on time? As they waited in their seats, people started to pack in—beaming, screaming, and humming. The curtains started to drop, you could hold the energy in your hands. She was so happy to be here.

Breaking The News
The email stopped her dead in her tracks, dead center in the middle of Houston Street to be exact. "He's going to freak out," she spoke into thin air, totally oblivious to the handful of people who had bumped into her. As she dialed his number, her heart felt like it was exploding in her chest. Ring…Ring…Ring… "OH MY GOD, you're never going to believe it!"

The Perfect Gift
"She's going to DIE," she said to her sales associate when she saw it on the rack. Sure, Delphine's birthday wasn't ending in a 5 or a 0, but they had been friends forever. Walking into the restaurant later that night, her palms were sweating. Delphine looked unreal. "Wait, what? You didn't have to get me anything," she said, taking the box out of her hands and examining the packaging. Her eyes lit up. "You didn't! Noooooo!" It was all worth it.
"glad it happened, thrilled it's over" <<< this is exactly how I feel about the summer. Love all of your posts, always!!
