Falling Into Place
People And Things With Perfect Timing This Autumn
Like it or not, fall is just around the corner. Personally, I'm delighted. This summer has been many things - it came, it saw, it conquered...and let me tell you there have been lights and shadows. But now here we are, on the cusp of all things pumpkin spice, cashmere sweaters, and I am here for it. Who knows - maybe I'll go rogue and visit a haunted house.
Moving on, I think even if you spent the summer falling in love in Puglia, splitting sagne 'ncannulate Lady and the Tramp style, you're probably ready for a new tempo. I hope every single person reading this has the most magical September 22nd through December 21st, but I've noticed that a few people and things have a leg up on making the most of these next few months. Here are my observations - enjoy!

Anyone Who Can Soundtrack The Life of a Showgirl Unless you spent August completely unplugged in a villa on Laucala (if this was you, congratulations...tell me everything), you're probably aware that Taylor Swift's next album The Life Of A Showgirl is being released on October 3rd. Excellent news for Swifties, even better if orange is your color, and a brilliant feat for anyone who has a pivotal next episode of life debuting this fall. This includes falling in love, getting married, moving into your dream apartment, but I'm most envious of the 23-26 year old girls just moving to a new city who get to soundtrack every single dip into the uncharted waters of adulthood to one of Taylor's 12 new tracks.
Paper Plane Cocktail If an Aperol spritz is a double kiss on the cheek, then the Paper Plane is a warm hug. Aperol, amaro, bourbon. I'm seeing them everywhere lately, and while none of the spirits are particularly my thing, the recipe makes me want to throw on some variation of The Row Ophelia sweater, in an ambiance that after two drinks coaxes you to scan the room attempting to pinpoint who may have a cigarette. May we all find ourselves somewhere cool with somebody hot drinking paper planes this fall.
Céline Phantom Rennisance Following Michael Rider's debut at Céline in Paris on July 6th, walk-in closets everywhere from Geneva to Greene Street suddenly called for a ladder as those Céline Phantom bags that had been tucked away since the Obama years were ready for their next chapter. Farewell Fendi Peekaboo! Ciao, Bottega Jodie! Ta-ta The Row Margaux! (yeah I said it). The Phantom wasn't ghosting you, she just needed her beauty rest. Kendall Flavin recently shared an older version of the bag in pony hair that makes me want to order a whole milk cappuccino from Sant Ambroeus and walk down Madison Avenue like I have nowhere to be.
The J.Crew Layered Pointelle Sweater-Tee In Leaf Green Drooling over the J.Crew fall collection is not an original concept. It's FABULOUS. The sweaters, the jackets, the denim. Snaps for Olympia Gayot. Crocodile? Pickle? Pear? Moss? Leaf? I can't quite put my finger on what shade of green this is, but I feel like it's one of those rare hues that brings out the best in everyone. This pointelle sweater gives me 'Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' vibes. Sleek, bright, fabulous with a very important neckline. Wear it with a smile and who knows what will happen next.
You have a third date at The Eighty Six She kind of might like him, he’s a brief but funny texter, she’s not sure about any of it, but still excited. 'The Eighty Six at 8:30 PM on Thursday' he messages Sunday around 4PM. ‘Who is this guy?, her friend ask, ‘Can he get us into The Corner Store?’ She throws on an ÉTERNE mini dress, a pair of STAUD boots and a Khaite leather jacket. The room feels alive. He's growing on her. Does the restaurant have a sour cream and onion martini or a sundae worth Instagramming...maybe? Probably? Honestly, who cares, she’s out to dinner in New York City. Things could always be worse.
Marie Claire Contributing Editors I’ll speak for myself, but if you started a Substack, there is likely some part of your inner child that fantasized about a byline in a big splashy magazine. Blame Carrie Bradshaw or Jenna Rink. Last week Marie Claire tapped 4 Substack writers as contributing editors. It’s cool and exciting to see. Congrats to Tariro Makoni, Elizabeth Cardinal Tamkin, Erika Veurink, and Grace Dougherty.. I am rooting for you!
